International Human Rights Day 2014

Anay and Bucky had a very important event to attend today. It was the International Human Rights Day's prize ceremony. Teachers and students from all parts of the city assembled for the ceremony where Frei Betto received the prize himself http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frei_Betto. The prize was designed by the artist Tomie Ohtake http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomie_Ohtake.

Anay is looking at Oca which is a place designed to host big exhibitions. It is located at Ibirapuera Park.

Bucky is in front of MAM, Modern Art Museum and we can see the giant spider sculpture by Louise Bourgeois at the back, held in a glass room. http://www.expedia.com.au/Museum-Of-Modern-Art-Sao-Paulo.d6061575.Attraction

Then we finally got to the auditorium http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audit%C3%B3rio_Ibirapuera

Autorities took their places and the ceremony began.

Frei Betto gave a memorable speech on human rights and reminded us all about one of the saddest pages of Brazil's history: the military dictatorship.

Fernando Haddad, mayor of São Paulo and Cesar Calligari, secretary of education listened very attentively to Frei Betto's words.

The prize was named after his eminence Dom Paulo Evaristo Arns who has always opposed to the military dictatorship and defended human rights http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paulo_Evaristo_Arns.

All details of this ceremony can be found on  http://portaledh.educapx.com/

After that we all gathered together for a cock tail.

The group Pombas Urbanas http://pombasurbanas.org.br/blog/ opened the ceremony with a theatre presentation and delighted us all with their music at the end.

Well, Teddy Bear project didn't get the prize today, but we loved the works all schools presented and we had a lot of fun. Maybe next year.
