JUNE FESTIVAL

June festivities in Brazil are originally linked to the Catholic saints:  St. Anthony, St. John and St. Peter whose celebration takes place during the month of June when also happens the harvest of corn. In our schools there is not  religious celebrations. However,  we preserve the traditional dances, games and typical food made with corn as 'pamonha', corn pudding (curau), 'canjica', corn cake, , popcorn and couscous.

Our June Festival took place on 27 June and brought together the entire school community.

Quadrilha dance is a performance where dancers are supposed to be going to a wedding party we call it 'Casamento Caipira'.Incidents happen along the way, like the rain, the fall of a bridge, the appearance of a snake and are staged during the dance. There is even a tunnel. When the guests finally arrive, they join the 'Caipira' wedding ceremony and the great ball.

Ai bota aqui o seu pezinho.

All teachers, school workers and students are supposed to help during the party and much before that, by decorating the school and rehearsing dances for the cultural presentation.

How to make 'Pamonha'

Both parents and kids enjoy the festivities. There are many reasons for that. If  do not like the dances there is the food, or the music which is fantastic and the games.
